With reference to my telegrams of the 4th August and 13th September, 1920, I have the honour to state that I have had under consideration the arrangement, sanctioned in Viscount Knutsford's despatch No.115 of the 13th July, 1888, by which the post of Health Officer of the Port is held by Dr. G. P. Jorden, a member of a private firm of medical practitioners in the Colony.

Dr. Jorden is now 62 years of age, and although he was originally appointed personally to the post, the work has, in fact, been performed for the most part in recent years by other members of his firm.

I consider that all the work connected with the administration of the Port should be brought under the immediate control of the Government, and that the present' anomalous state of affairs should be terminated by the appointment as Health Officer of the Port of a whole time officer of the Government.
The importance of this consideration is evident from the fact that the revenue from fees in respect of the work of the Health Officer of the Port amounted in 1919 to almost $55,000.
